My view on concealed carry

Concealed Carry on campus is a huge debate with Texas public schools right now. The threats of shootings have increased in the year 2010. Concealed Carry on Campus is the idea where students over the age of 21 can carry a law-approved gun on their person, on the premises of an Education Institute owned by the State. The idea of the Concealed Campus Bill was after the Virginia Tech shooting, which students began to say that “Gun Free” campuses don’t work. I believe that concealed carry should surely be allowed on campuses of state schools, to better protect not only the carrier, but the students and faculty at the University as well. The University of Texas had their most recent gun threat in September 28th 2010 where the gunman took his own life but thankfully no one else’s. In 1966, at the University of Texas Charles Whitman used the Observational Tower to murder 16 people, along with wounding 30 others with his gun. Do you think if any of those victims were licensed to carry a gun on campus would the numbers be high? Would there be any numbers at all? No one knows. This bill is about having people, some already responsible to carry a handgun in everyday places, such as malls, grocery stores, movie theaters, restaurants, churches and so on, to continue the responsibility on campus. It is a civic duty to protect ourselves, and our fellow citizens around us. What is the difference on campus? We are all students, tomorrow’s future, learning to better the world, and better our own lives. Do we want someone to take that opportunity away from us? Because they are not happy with their own lives? Or on some sort of psychotic break and ruin the rest of our lives. Granted, it’s not very common, that is the rebuttal in this argument. If it’s rare then why make it more frequent by allowing them on campus? Because people that go through the classes, training and all the hassle to obtain the carry on, is to give them the right to bear arms, to protect themselves, classmates and the ones they care for. The overall honesty about Carry on Campus, is that we don’t know. We don’t know what the effects are going to be once it is allowed, we don’t know if it’ll help or only worsen the tragic outcomes over the years. That is why it is a huge debate, is because the human emotion of uncertainty is all around this debate. It wouldn’t hurt to try and have faith in our citizens and fellow students. The campus and city police can only do so much and be in so many places. We have a responsibility as well as them to protect one another. It’s about trust, and our natural right to bear arms responsibly. Concealed carry is about a right to protect oneself and it is a natural right to the American people and it should be practiced no matter what the stupid liberals say and it doesn't protect anybody.
